Your Options Made Simple
There are three basic steps for deciding how to receive your Medicare benefits.
Step 1: Decide if you want Traditional Medicare or a Medicare Advantage
Traditional Medicare is provided by the Federal Government, while Medicare Advantage (also referred
to as Part C) is provided by private insurance companies.
Both provide Part A (inpatient care at hospitals, as well as skilled nursing, hospice and home health care)
and Part B (doctor's services and outpatient care, as well as some preventative services.) Traditional Medicare or Medicare Advantage plans may not provide comprehensive coverage on their own. You may have deductibles, coinsurance or copays.
Step 2: Decide if you want Supplement Coverage
Known as Medicare supplement or Medigap plans, these insurance policies are designed to provide comprehensive coverage
and reduce your out-of-pocket health care costs (such as copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles)
NOTE: This option is ONLY available if you choose Traditional Medicare
Step 3: Decide if you want Prescription Drug Coverage
These plans, sold by private insurance companies, cover both brand-name and generic prescription drugs
at participating pharmacies in your area.
